Days of Our Lives 50th Anniversary Preview: Will Patch and Kayla Reconcile?

As Days of Our Lives pushes towards its 50th anniversary in November, this week marked the start of a serial killer storyline that claimed its first victim.
Fans should be prepared to lose more characters in the coming weeks, as the show is boasting a faster pace with a "fresh new look," per an NBC press release.
But with the tragedy that will befall Salem, familiar faces are going to return, starting with today's installment when we'll first see Patch (aka Steve Johnson, played by Stephen Nichols), who was part of one of the big super couples from the drama's heyday in the 1980s and 1990s.
And while his former love, Kayla (Mary Beth Evans), has been back on the series for awhile now, what will happen when she is reunited with Patch, who all but abandoned her? Will their spark reignite? Or have they both moved on from one another?
To get a peek, I was on set when Nichols and Evans were shooting scenes together, grabbing some time to find out the state of their relationship and what it was like for the two actors to work together once again.
Other actors returning for the show's 50th anniversary include Alison Sweeney (Sami), Peter Reckell (Bo), Jason Cook (Sean), Martha Madison (Belle) Thaao Phenglist (Tony DiMera), Camila Banus (Gabi) and Tamara Braun (Ava).
