Siren Season 2 Episode 14 Review: The Last Mermaid

at .

Thanks to Siren Season 2 Episode 14, it appears as if we know quite a bit about the mermaid's mating process. And it's intense, to say the least.

Mating in the water is nothing like reproducing on land, and this time viewers got to witness everything.

Reunion - Siren Season 2 Episode 14

The mating ritual may have been described quite a few times throughout Siren Season 2, but it was nothing like seeing it firsthand.

When mermaids are in the water, there's nothing human about them. The experience was more animalistic than anything else, and we can't blame Levi for not being a huge fan of how it all goes down.

Unfortunately, even after all that, Ryn couldn't get pregnant. The pollution in the water makes it impossible for them to reproduce.

Maddie: I think we found out why and the others aren't getting pregnant. The ocean water test results came in. They're not good.
Ryn: What is wrong with water?
Maddie: It's polluted.
Ben: There are substances, BPAs from garbage...plastics...
Maddie: Causing fertility problems just like we thought.
Ryn: No babies in water.
Maddie: No.

Ben's suggestion about trying it out on land, was a bit odd, but may also work. However, it did raise an interesting question. If Ryn has sex in human form with a merman, will the baby come out human?

Searching for a Friend - Siren Season 2 Episode 14

While viewers probably won't get a definite answer for a while, I think it would make sense for the babies to come out like Helen and her family. But, the show could take it either way.

Ben and Ryn weren't on the best of terms for most of Siren Season 2 Episode 14, and it made everything that much harder for Ben.

It's not easy to stand guard outside with the girl you love while the other girl you both love has sex with another man.

I love the relationship between Ben, Maddie, and Ryn, but there's different dynamics between each of them. The dynamic between Maddie and Ryn has always been more entertaining to me, simply because it was unexpected.

Fertility Issues - Siren Season 2 Episode 14

During the beginning of Siren Season 1, it appeared as if there would be a love triangle between Ben, Maddie, and Ryn. Instead of Maddie and Ryn fighting over Ben, they fell for each other as well, and their relationship became a refreshing thing to see on television.

The best way to have sex on land is just to let it feel good. Like with us. You remember when we were first together? How we showed you? Now you show him.

Maddie

Ryn has always trusted Maddie unconditionally, and it's that trust in Maddie that leads her back to Ben. Ryn knows that their love is good and that Ben would never do anything to hurt her.

Ben's hallucination throws that very belief into question.

He killed my people and it starts with love. Like Ben loves Ryn.

Ryn

There's no arguing that Ben would never do anything to hurt Ryn intentionally. Ben is the kind of person who puts his life on the line for strangers, so of course, he wouldn't want to harm the girl he loves.

Secret Keeping - Siren Season 2 Episode 14

But the siren song has once again come back to haunt him, and as we've seen in the past, it can make people do the complete opposite of what they want.

Is Ryn safe with Ben? We sure hope so.

And then we have Xander; we can't help but feel sorry for him. No matter how much he tries to escape the crazy underwater world of mermaids, he keeps getting roped back in.

Another weird night. Courtesy of the merpeople.

Xander

His negative feelings towards the mermaids were a bit infuriating at first, but now it's just become comedic.

Xander toting two mermaids around in the back of his car with a "here we go again," expression on his face was probably one of the best parts of Siren Season 2 Episode 14

Protecting Ryn - Siren Season 2 Episode 14

How did Xander go from being one of Siren's worst characters to one of its bests?

Nicole has been gone for two episodes now, and Xander is taking notice. Viewers didn't get an answer to Nicole's whereabouts, but Ben did find something else.

And no, the photos of Ben, Ryn, and Maddie having sex wasn't even the worst of what he discovered.

Now that they know the military has been digging up Helen's family, Helen is no longer safe. As much as they try to hide it, the military is ruthless and will do whatever it takes to get the answers they seek.

It's your turn, Siren fans. What did you think of Siren Season 2 Episode 14?

Will Ryn get pregnant? Will Ben go off the deep end again? What's next for Helen now that her family secret got discovered? And most importantly, what is a brainwashed Chris doing at the military base?
