The Good Doctor Shocker: Another Series Regular Departs!

at .

When The Good Doctor Season 2 debuts, it will be down another series regular.

According to TV Line, Beau Garrett, who played Jessica Preston on the ABC medical drama, is out after one season.

While the news is not all that surprising when you consider that Jessica's storyline essentially fizzled out by the end of The Good Doctor Season 1, it's shocking it has been revealed just days before the show returns.

When the ABC series kicked off, Jessica was in a relationship with Dr. Melendez (Nicholas Gonzalez), but their relationship stalled because they both had different feelings about starting a family.

If you watch The Good Doctor online, you know that Jessica wasn't all that enthused about starting a family, and went into detail about it on The Good Doctor Season 1 Episode 4, an hour which focused on a mother who was willing to put her life at risk, despite being urged to terminate her pregnancy.

This started a conversation with her then-boyfriend, Dr. Melendez because she felt like the mother was being selfish because there were other options for her, such as adoption.

Melendez then worried that Jessica was not ready to have a child of her own, and their relationship ultimately broke down on The Good Doctor Season 1 Episode 12

It's unclear how Garrett's exit will be addressed on-screen, but viewers don't have long to wait to find out given that the show returns Monday, September 24.

Garrett is not the only star on the way out of San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital:

It was revealed back in April that then-series regular, Chuku Modu, who plays Dr. Jared Kalu will also be saying goodbye to the show.

Around the same time, it was revealed that Fiona Gubelmann (Dr. Morgan Reznick), Will Yun Lee (Dr. Alex Park), Christina Chang (Dr. Audrey Lim) and Paige Spara (Lea) were all promoted to series regulars.

The Good Doctor Quotes

Aren’t we judged by how we treat people? I don’t mean as doctors. I mean as people. Especially those who don’t have the same advantages that we have. We hire Shaun and we give hope to those people with limitations that those limitations are not what they think they are. That they do have a shot! We hire Shaun and we make this hospital better for it. We hire Shaun and we are better people for it.

Dr. Aaron Glassman

I saw a lot of surgeons in medical school. You’re much better than them. I have a lot to learn from you. You’re very arrogant. Do you think that helps you be a good surgeon? Does it hurt you as a person? Is it worth it?
