Charmed Reboot Gets Pilot Order at The CW: First Details Revealed!

at .  Updated at .

Remember the Charmed reboot that was in the works at The CW last year?

Well, it's still in the works, and the plot is considerably different from the first pitch that was originally mulled by the young-skewing network.

When first pitched, skeptics were all over the map about it, and original star Shannen Doherty was flat against it.

The first pitch was set in the 1970s and focused on three women brought together to fight the forces of evil. It was said to have some connection to the original series but still did not receive the best response from fans.

It looks like the qualms were taken into consideration for this second go around because they went back to the drawing board. The new pitch sounds interesting.

The series is described as "a fierce, funny, feminist reboot of the original series centers on three sisters in a college town who discover they are witches. Between vanquishing supernatural demons, tearing down the patriarchy, and maintaining familial bonds, a witch’s work is never done."

The most significant change is that this take will be set in the present.

This could be good news for fans holding out hope that some characters from the original series could stop by. Whether or not any of them would want to is another story, but with the feminist bent, it could sing out to Rose McGowan!

Jane the Virgin‘s Jessica O’Toole and Amy Rardin penned the pilot and will serve as executive producers alongside Jennie Urman, Brad Silberling, and Ben Silverman.

Meanwhile, the network has also handed out a pilot order to Dead Inside from Bill Lawrence. The logline for the series reads:

"After surviving an explosion that killed her hotshot detective big brother, an underachieving beat cop starts seeing his ghost, flipping their sibling dynamic on its head and allowing her to truly live her life for the first time, as they work together to help crime victims both living and dead, and figure out the unfinished business keeping his spirit on Earth."
