Hackers Quote Dexter While Exposing Celebrity Finances
Steve Marsi at .A group of hackers obtained and exposed the personal financial information (SSNs, credit reports, account numbers) of Michelle Obama, Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, Al Gore, Kim Kardashian, Jay-Z, Beyonce, Mel Gibson and others in an astonishingly brazen and successful breach of cyber-security this week.
The perpetrators were apparently inspired by Dexter Morgan himself.
The top of their website reads, "If you believe that God makes miracles, you have to wonder if Satan has a few up his sleeve," spoken by Michael C. Hall's character in the Dexter Season 2 finale:
The hackers' love for the Showtime series doesn't end there.
The website's source code also includes a link to a hidden YouTube video that doesn't appear anywhere on the actual page - if you copy and paste it, the link takes you to the Dexter end credits music.
He is pretty awesome as far as self-righteous vigilantes go ... but the similarities end there. Dexter has no real interest in other people's money ... or notoriety, or calling attention to himself. At all.
The FBI is investigating the hacks and is encouraging all high-profile individuals to secure their finances ASAP; reports indicate that some of the personal information has been "used," not just posted.
No word if Deb and Miami Metro are aiding the investigation.
