Futurama Review: "The Silence of the Clamps"
Nick McHatton at .While good in concept "The Silence of the Clamps," was a bit of a let down for me.
I enjoyed some of the jokes, especially in the beginning and the end with Bender and Zoidberg, but the middle of the episode didn’t gel.
It just feels like the entire Godfather/Italian mafia type parody has been done to death. When done well it can be funny, but Futurama didn’t bring much to the table with it.
Thankfully, once everyone got back to their day-to-day lives and stopped looking for Bender after he was put in witness protection, things started to pick up. I especially enjoyed the amount of jealously Zoidberg had of Francis.
In fact, Zoidberg’s epic duel with Francis on the surface of the moon salvaged the episode for me. I loved every minute of it, especially when Zoidberg was very protective about things he gets to clip and cut with Francis.
All right, maybe listening to Zoidberg being bleeped out in small, profanity laced tirades tickles my funny bone, too.
Below are some of my favorite Futurama quotes from the episode:
Professor: Who likes good news?
[Everyone raises their hands.]
Professor: Everyone? Then good news everyone! Our next delivery isn't to some dangerous outer space planet it's to Earth.
Fry: Earth is dangerous. I fell off my chair their once. | permalink
Judge 723: Organized crime is a plague on our society and I will not tolerate any form of intimidation during-
[Judge 723 is killed]
Bailiff: All rise for the honorable Judge 724! | permalink
Bender: I'm not on trial here.
Judge 724: That's true you're on trial in Courtroom 3. | permalink
Bender: So I have to hide forever?
Detective: No, just until the robot mafia finds and kills you. They're pretty good at that. | permalink
