Who Should Replace Michael Scott on The Office?

at .

Suddenly, Simon Cowell's seat on the American Idol judging table isn't the most pressing vacancy on TV.

Earlier this week, Steve Carell made it as official as he could: he's very likely to leave The Office after his contract runs out next year.

While the way in which writers pen Michael Scott's exit isn't a source of debate (he has to end up with Holly in Nashua, right?!?), who the show will choose as the new manager of Dundler Mifflin Scranton should be cause for months' worth of speculation.

Will the company promote from within? Jim's brief stint as co-manager didn't lead to many laughs.

Dwight would be a natural for the position, and we know he wants it, but that character's schitck is already based on an obnoxious (and hilarious) false sense of power. It might become tiresome if he actually acquires said power.

Andy would be an intriguing choice, as he possesses the same cluelessness and social awkwardness of Michael - but will the sitcom aim for Michael Scott 2.0 or someone totally fresh?

Who do you want to see as the branch manager? One of these characters? Or a big-name new cast member? Weigh the options below and vote, or leave a Comment with another possibility:

The Office Quotes

Kevin: Michael, did you just throw up in here?
Michael: Nah. Just poopin'. You know how I be.
Kevin: It smells like throw-up in here.
Michael: Crazy world. Lot of smells.

David, here it is. My philosophy is basically this. And this is something that I live by. And I always have. And I always will. Don't ever, for any reason, do anything to anyone, for any reason, ever, no matter what. No matter... where. Or who, or who you are with, or, or where you are going, or... or where you've been... ever. For any reason, whatsoever.
